Lusto - Forest Museum

The rain was in the morning...
We did not want to ride bicycles in the rain, but we were bored in our room.
"Do you want to visit the museum?" - I said.
"A museum"? - my wife was surprised.
Yes, the forest museum - "Lusto".

Lusto - the Finnish Forest Museum is located on Saimaa, near the town of Punkaharju.
Here are its coordinates: 61°48'00.4"N, 29°19'14.8"E
You will meet on the road a peasant with a sleigh of firewood...
"Where did you get the firewood? - From the forest, of course...

If translated from Finnish, then Lusto means "annual ring of tree"
Therefore, the museum building and exhibition halls were created in the form of a ring.

"Lusto" is not only a national museum, but a scientific exhibition centre of Finnish forest culture that studies the interaction between man and the forest from the past to the future.
Now the museum has 13,000 exhibits, 1,500 films and 350,000 photos related to the history and culture of the forest.

The main exhibition of the museum acquaint visitors with the history of forestry in Finland, with folk traditions.
There are days of demonstration of folk crafts, you can see the work of a sculptor with a chainsaw and making baskets from a birch bark.

The Forest festival "Metku" takes place in the museum every summer.
This is a forest fair, forestry work exhibits, excursions and music...

If you are tired of the noise of machines, you can go to the "Room of Silence".
When your enter the Room of Silence you will find yourself near a virtual forest pond in autumn, where you can experience the peace and quiet of nature.
Swans are setting off on their migration, the fish splash about in the water...
