Old Town

Our "Central Hotel" has pleased us not only a cozy room and convenient location, but also an excellent breakfast.
After breakfast, on Thursday morning, August 11, 2016, we went to the "Old Town" of Tallinn.

Old Town

Old Town

The "Old Town" is the oldest part of Tallinn. Its history.
But thanks to this part of the city - Tallinn is known all over the world.
Thousands of tourists come here to see the narrow crooked streets, squares and medieval buildings and churches.

Old Town

Old Town

The "Old Town" of Tallinn was conditionally divided into the Lower Town and Upper Town - Toompea, which is located on the hill of Toompea, behind the fortress wall.

Toompea

Noble people, knights and clergy lived on the hill of Toompea...

Toompea

Toompea

Merchants, artisans and ordinary people lived in the Lower Town.

Lower Town

Lower Town

From the hotel to the "Old Town" we reached in 10 minutes.
Here is the Viru Square, and here are the old city gates on Viru Street - "Viru Varavad" (Viru Gate).
These are the two towers that remained from the old gate...

Viru Varavad

The Viru Gate was built at the end of the 13th century...
In 1843 the Gate was destroyed and only two towers remained.

Viru Gate

Unfortunately, there was a road construction and it was difficult for us to make good photos.

Viru Varavad

Viru Gate

A large number of tourists and narrow streets also create difficulties for such novice photographers like us.

Viru

We moved towards Niguliste Street...

Here, in house # 2, there is an information tourist center, where you can take a map of Tallinn and buy a guide to the city.

Niguliste

We took a map and went to the "Upper Town" - Toompea.
